This is really a cute book, a classic Blume. Sally Freedman moves to Florida because of her brother’s kidney infection. She leaves her Dad, her friends, and her school behind.

Florida, 1945. Sally doesn’t know much about segregation, but soon finds out. She accidentally drinks from the colored fountain, and doesn’t understand why they have colored fountains.

Sally has a fascination with making up stories involving her and famous people. Sometimes she even believes normal people are famous in disguise. For instance, she is convinced Mr. Zavodsky is Hitler.

I really liked this book… but it’s not one of my favorites. I’m glad I bought it, still.

This is going to be a short post because I’m going to interview someone!
